PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
Learners credited with this unit standard are able to work effectively in a cleaning team.

Qualifying learners are able to:
  • Take accountability for his/her own cleaning tasks.
  • Contribute to the achievement of the objectives of a cleaning team.
  • Take pride in being a member of a cleaning team.

    Learners accessing this unit standard or qualification will have demonstrated competency against the following unit standard:

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • The scope of this unit standard is for any person who is a member of a cleaning team.
  • In the context of this unit standard a cleaning team includes, but is not limited to any group of people made up of staff and/or management in any combination, whose purpose is to work effectively in a cleaning services environment.
  • The level assigned to this unit standard is appropriate because the process is limited in range, repetitive and familiar, no generation of new ideas is needed and the person has no responsibility for the learning of others. 

  • Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Take accountability for his/her own cleaning tasks. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Accountability refers to taking responsibility for getting all cleaning tasks done correctly first time every time without the need for supervision, and where 'correctly' refers to the task being done in accordance with the worksite procedure and basic cleaning principles.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The reasons for taking accountability for his/her cleaning tasks is explained in terms of working effectively in a cleaning team, providing customer service and self development. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Instructions are carried out correctly to meet company requirements. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The reasons for communicating positively between members of a cleaning team is described and two examples are given that support a professional team image. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Range of communication includes but is not limited to greeting team members and all customers, maintaining eye contact during communication, listening carefully, giving others an equal opportunity to speak, encouraging and supporting others, smiling and other positive body language.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Accountability for all tasks given is taken to support the professional image of a team.

    Understand the importance of contributing to the achievement of the objectives of a cleaning team. 
    OUTCOME RANGE 
    Range of objectives includes, but is not limited to cleaning specifications, worksite procedures, cleaning tasks, time, budget.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Objectives of a cleaning team are described and understood in terms of working effectively in a cleaning team and providing customer service. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    His/her tasks are described in terms of their contribution to the achievement of the objectives of a cleaning team. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The importance of knowing the tasks of other members is explained in terms of their contribution to the achievement of the objectives of a cleaning team. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The importance of helping and supporting other team members is explained and two examples of help and support are given in terms of the contribution to the achievement of objectives of a cleaning team. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Effective teamwork is explained in terms of benefits to him/herself, the cleaning team and the cleaning company. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    The importance of each team member working as part of a cleaning team is explained in terms of providing customer service.

    Take pride in being a member of a cleaning team. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Good timekeeping is kept when reporting for duty and after breaks, and the importance of good timekeeping is explained in terms of working effectively in a cleaning team. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Reasons for displaying a professional image are explained in terms of showing pride in the cleaning team. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Customer and company property are handled with care and respect and the importance of doing so is explained in terms of working effectively in a cleaning team. 
    ASSESSMENT CRITERION RANGE 
    Range of customer and company property includes but is not limited to building structures, furniture and fittings, floor coverings, cleaning equipment, overalls and personal protective equipment, company vehicles.
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Reasons for taking pride in his/her work and appearance are explained in terms of working effectively in a cleaning team, providing customer service and the image of the cleaning team and the company.

  • Cleaning specification refers to the list of surfaces to be cleaned and the frequency of cleaning agreed.
  • Customers include, but are not limited to, all persons on the site where a cleaning service is being provided, and co-workers at any level.
  • Effective refers to being useful and productive as part of a cleaning team so as to meet the expectations and requirements of customers.
  • Professional image refers to the appearance and behaviour of the whole team as seen by customers.
  • Scope of work refers to the areas in which cleaning is to take place.
  • Taking pride refers to the feeling of satisfaction when a job has been completed and meets the requirements and expectations of customers.
