    Fan characteristic curves are defined. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The fan performance is calculated and remedial actions recommendations are recommended when fan performance does not comply with specifications.

    The importance of functional safety devices and requirements at fan installations are described. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The importance of fan performance test procedures are explained. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Demonstrate knowledge of fan performance calculations, curves and graph plotting. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The fan characteristic, input power and efficiency curves are drawn and compared with manufacturer's performance data. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The importance of establishing the performance of a fan is explained. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The system resistance curve is calculated and the actual operating point of the fan is determined. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The fan duty, corresponding input power and efficiency are determined. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Determine fan characteristic curve and operating point. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The air velocity is determined and recorded for each setting of the regulating device and the importance of determining the air velocity as prescribed is explained. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The volume flow rate for each required point on the fan characteristic curve is calculated and recorded by using measured data. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    The measurement of fan differential pressure is explained and recorded for each setting of the regulating device. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The determination of fan electrical input data and the recording thereof for each setting of the regulating device is described. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    The measurements and recording of psychrometric properties and fan speed are described. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 6 
    The work is performed in a manner that fosters teamwork and avoids conflict.

  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA or ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard must be accredited, as a provider, by the relevant ETQA or ETQA that has a Memorandum of Understanding in place with the relevant ETQA.
