PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This learner will be able to perform a limited range of carpentry functions under direct supervision.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Identifying and using tools, materials and protective equipment used for the installation of finishing components, preparing the work area, installing finishing components as well as preparing components for finishing applications and apply surface touch ups.

    These learning outcomes form part of the Elective learning in the "National Certificate in Construction".

    This unit standard will contribute to the development of more professional construction workers.

    The skills, knowledge and understanding demonstrated within this unit standard are essential for social and economic transformation and upliftment within the construction environment. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    The following knowledge, skills attitude and/or equivalent:
  • ABET Level 4 or NQF Level 1 English literacy and numeracy. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Learners will perform the basic tasks listed in this unit standard under supervision.
  • Finishing components include but are not limited to: Wall panelling material, picture rails, architraves, skirting, domestic windows, doors, frames, ironmongery, timber floors, timber staircases, cupboards, shelving, kitchen units, towel rails, medicine cabinets, timber sills, pelmets, curtain tracks, metal and timber garage doors.
