PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A person credited with this unit standard is able to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals of ERP consulting, and its impact on the business environment.

In particular, on completion of this unit standard, the learner is able to:
  • Demonstrate the value of end user feedback with respect to an ERP solution.
  • Outline major operational problem areas experienced by an end user relating to an ERP solution.
  • Analyse solutions that were provided.
  • Propose corrective measures to prevent similar problems reoccurring.
  • Propose end user driven continuous improvements with respect to ERP system functionality. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    It is assumed that learners are competent in:
  • end user Computing at NQF Level 3.
  • Mathematical Literacy at NQF Level 3.
  • Communication skills at NQF level 3. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • This unit standard is meant to give learners an understanding of the connection between business enabling systems and the processes they support.
  • Learners are expected to gain an awareness of the manner in which Business systems, and ERP systems in particular, can add value in a business environment.
  • This unit standard alone will not give learners comprehensive technical expertise in ERP or Business systems.
  • The unit standard relies on the learner's awareness of some aspect of the business functionality, be it through direct experience or observation. 

  • Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Demonstrate the value of end-user feedback with respect to an ERP solution. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The skills and viewpoints of end-users versus technical developers are contrasted with a view to highlighting the relevance of the end-user knowledge in the development and improvement of an ERP solution. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Various types of end-user feedback mechanisms are identified to show the prevalent use of end-user feedback in the solution development process. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Outline major operational problem areas experienced by an end-user relating to an ERP solution. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    A definition is given of five (5) key operational problems encountered by end-users of ERP systems. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A problem statement, outlining key aspects of the issue, is formulated in writing. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Analyse solutions that were provided. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    The existence of any apparent patterns or trends in the resolutions provided for specific problems are identified to determine their positive or negative effects. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Appropriate conclusions about the nature of the specific problems encountered are drawn based on research findings. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    A cause-effect diagram is produced for a particular issue to illustrate an understanding of the context in which the issue will occur. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Propose corrective measures to prevent similar problems reccurring. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Corrective measures are proposed for each of the five (5) key operational problems encountered by end-user's of ERP systems. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The nature of a specific issue arising in the workplace is described listing corrective steps that should be taken. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Issue resolution documentation is produced providing an analysis of the nature and underlying causes of the issue in relation to the proposed corrective measures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    The vulnerability of a business process is examined in relation to the class of issues to which it is susceptible. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    A recommendation is made, outlining the steps required to correct the business process vulnerability. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 5 
    Propose end-user driven continuous improvements with respect to ERP system functionality. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    At least two recommendations are provided on how specific ERP functionality can be improved to make the process more effective. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    A business case is prepared, outlining the preferred method of creating functionality in an ERP system to improve a business process. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
  • An individual wishing to be assessed against this unit standard (including through RPL) may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant Education and Training Quality Assurance body (ETQA), or one with an appropriate memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard must be registered as an assessor with the relevant ETQA, or one with an appropriate MOU with the relevant ETQA.
  • Any institution offering learning that will enable achievement of this unit standard, or assessing this unit standard, must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA, or one with an appropriate MOU with the relevant ETQA.
