A person credited with this unit standard is able to demonstrate an understanding of the overall concept of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution.

In particular, on completion of this unit standard, the learner is able to:
  • Explain the concept of a system-wide business process in relation to an ERP solution
  • Explain how an ERP solution integrates various system-wide business processes
  • Explain the evolution of a current ERP solution
  • Understand the overall architecture of an ERP System
  • Explain the concept of navigation within the operational context of an ERP System
  • Explain the concept and purpose of configuring and customising an ERP System
  • Identify the various role-players in the configuration of an ERP System

    The history of ERP solutions is reviewed with a view to documenting their evolution over the last ten years.

    The impact of wide area networks on the efficiency of ERP operation is explained using simple technology.

    Improvements and efficiency enhancements of a specific ERP system are described using a simple example.

    The future direction of ERP development is broadly described in writing and related to the organisation.

    The major differences between configuration and customisation of an ERP system are clearly explained, highlighting the maintenance considerations.
