PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to maintain effective working conditions by carrying out good housekeeping routines and complying with relevant housekeeping procedures.

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Carrying out good housekeeping routines
  • Preparing workstation for safe and effective production
  • Complying with relevant housekeeping policies and procedures
  • Maintaining effective working conditions 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this unit standard will have demonstrated competence in basic numeracy and literacy equivalent to ABET Level 4. They will also have achieved, or be able to demonstrate equivalent competence to, the National Certificate (GETC) in Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Activities, (Furniture).

    Any faults identified with equipment are reported to the relevant person.

    Equipment and tools for work to be carried out are checked to be operational and in condition for safe and effective work.

    Equipment and tools are set to required specification according to work requirements.

    Equipment and tools are laid out in sequence according to work requirements.

    Organisational housekeeping policies and procedures are explained. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    The importance of good housekeeping and the impact of poor housekeeping on people, processes, facilities and products are explained. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    All housekeeping policies and procedures impacting on the candidate's area of responsibility are complied with appropriately and timeously. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Any shortcomings in housekeeping practices are identified and reported to the appropriate authority.

    Maintain effective working conditions.

    Relevant safety routines are carried out according to requirements.

    Environmental conditions of the workstation conform to health and safety requirements.

    Faulty equipment and tools identified are isolated, replaced and reported to the relevant person. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Equipment and tools are handled safely without damage or injury.

    The workstation is kept clean, tidy and safe.

    Equipment and tools are returned safely to correct storage after use.

    The responsibilities of employees as they apply to housekeeping and the workplace and fellow workers are explained.
