PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner who has achieved this unit standard will be competent in:
  • Maintaining tobacco transport units to ensure optimum production performance of the units. 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    To enter a learning programme for this unit standard or to be assessed against this unit standard, the learner is assumed to have:
  • National Certificate in Tobacco Processing - NQF Level 3
  • Mechanical background - NQF Level 3 or equivalent. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The learner is expected to perform the specific outcomes as reflected in this unit standard with minimal supervision, but with access to work-site procedures and operating instructions.

    The scope of this unit standard deals with the repair and commissioning of tobacco transport units.

    Tobacco transport units include, but are not limited to, vibratory conveyors, trough conveyors and belt conveyors.

    Tobacco transport units components include, but are not limited to, belts, rollers, scrapers, brushes, side seals, spring blades, vibratory trough, metal detectors, v-belts and chains, and belt tensioner.
