PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner credited with this unit standard will be able to apply train working rules as applicable to Railway Signalling maintenance personnel. This will ensure a safe working environment in which the construction and/or maintenance of railway signalling infrastructure is performed, thereby contributing to a reliable railway signalling system, safe and efficient train operationsand effective rail transportation.

    This standard excludes Train Working Rules applicable to signalling personnel who are responsible for driving Road-Rail vehicles.

    Occupation means taking temporary control of a defined section of railway line or specific infrastructure equipment for maintenance/repair work to be performed within a specific time frame.
    Specific work area means the boundaries/locality/section of responsibility for infrastructure maintenance and repairs.


    Certification:
    The learner will be certified as competent when the knowledge and application of Train Working Rules and the General Appendix applicable to signalling maintenance personnel, as well as local appendices applicable to the learner's specific work area have been demonstrated successfully.
