PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner credited with this unit standard will be able to identify, route, harness and terminate electrical conductors used in railway signalling according to specifications by applying signal-engineering practice. This will ensure correctly routed and terminated electrical conductors, which contribute in part to a reliable electrical railway signalling system, safe and efficient train operations and effective rail transportation.

    Certification:

    The learner will be certified as competent when the following has been performed to specification timeously:
  • A stranded 4-core and a solid 12-core cable have been harnessed and terminated correctly using an approved termination type and relevant termination method given in the list below.
  • At least 12 separate electrical conductors have to be routed, harnessed and terminated. The termination types must include all the termination methods given in the list below.
