PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This Unit Standard is intended for persons working in, or planning entry into, the Construction Industry. A person accredited with this Unit Standard will be able to prepare substrates for the installation of various types of flooring, in accordance with the industry's set standards.

This Unit Standard will contribute to the full development of any learner within the construction industry by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field. The knowledge, skills and understanding demonstrated in this Unit Standard will aid in the social and economic transformation and upliftment within the construction industry. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
The following knowledge, skills, attitude and/or equivalent are assumed for a learner embarking on the unit standard:

    Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Prepare work area for the removal of old surface and the installation of new floor. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    Equipment and tools required for the removal of old flooring and installation of new flooring is identified and selected correctly and stored safely on site, for future use. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Furniture and content is moved carefully, appropriately, responsibly and in a way that is safe to both people and property 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    Furniture and content is stored (packed and stacked) carefully, appropriately, responsibly and in a way that is safe to both people and property 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Non-routine aspects of removal of old flooring and installation of new flooring are recognised and planned for, according to set standards 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Work performed by other trades are protected so as to not damage other, recently installed or existing construction features

    The presence of under floor heating is recognised accurately and the implications thereof on the flooring project is accurately assessed

    Loosen/dismantle old flooring according to set standards and using correct equipment

    Remove old flooring appropriately and safely

    Store (pack and stack) for and during transport safely and according to set procedures

    Dispose of old flooring safely and with regard for the environment
