PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This standard is in the core category of the NQF Level 3 National Certificate in CTFL Mechanician Processes. Learners who are assessed competent with this unit standard are able to explain the legal, safety, environmental and specified procedures in health, safety and environmental practices, use relevant safety and protective equipment, clothing and machine guards in the CTFL sector as well as explain and apply housekeeping practices and measures. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners will have attained an ABET Level 4 qualification or equivalent qualification at NQFLevel 2.

    The explanation confirms, according to legal, health and safety legislation, the procedure of the right to notify and withdraw from potentially dangerous situations.

    The demonstration outlines, according to legal, health and safety legislation, and the effects that non-compliance have on health, safety and environment on a person.

    The demonstration outlines, according to legal, health and safety legislation, the preventative measures to be taken when working with any equipment and machinery.

    The demonstration confirms, according to legal, health and safety legislation, the examination and maintenance of personal protective equipment and clothing.

    The explanation outlines, the ability to maintain cleanliness in the work area and its importance by applying standard operating processes and procedures.

    Safety and housekeeping standards improve over a period of time as a result of an implemented practice and measures according to legal, health and safety legislation.
