PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The person credited with this unit standard is able to read and interpret an event site plan for a function and identify and collect what tools and equipment will be required. Learners are also able to safely layout the area as per the plan and check the quality of the finished product. They are also able to, after the event, break down and clear all tools and equipment used in a safe manner within the required timeframe. Learners are also able to monitor, control and supervise staff members working at an event to ensure they comply and apply company standards and procedures

The qualifying learner is capable of:
  • Interpreting a site plan
  • Identifying and collecting tools and equipment required for the site
  • Supervise the setting up of the area and checking quality of the final layout
  • Monitoring the use of physical resources
  • Breaking down and clearing tools and equipment after the event
  • Ensuring staff work within company guidelines and procedures at an event 

  • LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
    Learners accessing this qualification will have demonstrated competence in numeracy and literacy at NQF level 3 or equivalent.

    Site plan is obtained for planned event/function from responsible individual. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    Site plan is read and understanding is checked through questioning with the responsible individual to ensure all elements of the plan are clearly understood.

    List of requirements is developed for own planning and is in line with requirements stated on the site plan.

    Identify and collect tools and equipment required for the site.

    Site plan is read and tools for build up are identified and listed as per standard building up criteria.

    Site plan is read and equipment required is identified and listed as per plan instruction and requirements.

    Tools and equipment are ordered/booked as per requirements of the plan developed and within required timeframe.

    Tools and equipment are obtained/collected and moved to the venue in a safe and secure manner within the required timeframe.

    Equipment is assembled under supervision using correct tools and conducted in a safe manner in line with set company assembly regulations.

    Finishing touches are physically checked for quality in line with set company standards and criteria.

    The teams' use of physical resources is efficient and takes into account the possible impact on the environment.

    The quality of physical resources is monitored against set criteria.

    The methods of monitoring the use of physical resources are reliable and comply with company standards and procedures.

    The actual use of physical resources is monitored against an agreed plan at appropriate intervals.

    Prompt corrective action is taken to deal with actual or potential significant deviations for the plan.

    Records relating to the use of physical resources are complete, accurate and available to authorised people only in the required company format.

    Equipment is broken down using correct tools and conducted in a safe manner in line with set company break down regulations.

    Tools and equipment are cleaned under supervision according to company standards.

    Tool and equipment inventory is conducted and numbers collected match numbers delivered, short falls are recorded in required format and reported to responsible individual. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    Tools and equipment are packed securely and returned to supplier/store in a safe manner within the required timeframe. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 5 
    Venue/function area is checked to ensure all tools and equipment have been collected and the venue/function area is clean as per company standards.

    Ensure staff work within company guidelines and procedures at an event.

    Staff working practices are monitored against company operating practices in required manner and timeframe.

    Staff application/implementation of the code of conduct and workplace ethics standards are monitored and corrective action implemented when required in line with company policy and procedure.
