A learner who has achieved this unit standard will be competent in:

Planting of tea bushes without supervision to ensure correctly planted tea fields.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
The scope of this unit standard deals with the planting and mulching of tea bushes.

The specific outcomes as reflected in this unit standard are performed without direct supervision, but with access to standard working procedures and operating instructions. 

Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
Prepare for plant process. 
OUTCOME NOTES 
Preparing the work area according to standard working and safety procedures.

Determining a sequence of operations according to standard working procedures.

Selecting appropriate tools and equipment according to standard working and quality procedures.

Selecting appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) according to statutory requirements. 

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
 

ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
Assessors will observe, confirm and evaluate evidence that will indicate that learners have demonstrated competence in each of the specific outcomes.
In this unit standard the following specific criteria should be used:

Purpose of:
  • Planting at correct depth
  • Planting cover crops and windbreaks correctly
  • Mulching between rows of tea

    Consequences of not:
  • Planting tea bushes at correct depth
  • Adhering to safety procedures
  • Compacting surrounding soi
  • Planting windbreaks and cover crops correctly
  • Retaining water through mulching 

  • SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Plant tea bushes.

    Positioning of plants at each plant station.

    Planting tea bushes at correct depth according to standard working procedures.

    Compacting of soil around plant according to standard working procedures.

    Planting cover crop and wind breaks according to required standard working procedures.

    Placing of mulch between rows of tea bushes.
