PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
The purpose of this Unit Standard is to enable Construction Contractors to establish and manage a construction contracting business. Learners acquiring competency with this unit standard are able to: understand and apply Business Principles, market contracting services, and apply Industrial Relations procedures.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
1. Types of companies include: sole proprietorship, close corporation, private and public company, trust, partnership, and a cooperative.

2. Compulsory payments and levies include: Regional Services Council levies, UIF, Skills Development levies, PAYE, SITE, company tax, VAT, and WCA.

UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
Assessment of learner achievements takes place at providers accredited by CETA (RSA, 1998b) for the provision of programs that result in the outcomes specified for the Certificate in Construction Contracting. CETA is responsible for moderation of learner achievements of learners who meet the requirements of this unit standard.
