PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard has as its core purpose, qualifying learners who will demonstrate a basic understanding of the historical, political, social and economic role of South Africa in Africa and the SADC countries. They will demonstrate a clear understanding of the current issues affecting the African continent how these issues determine the diplomatic relations of South Africa.

The qualifying learner will be able to:
  • Define the concept and origin of the African Renaissance.
  • Demonstrate an overview of the policies and issues of the African States
  • Explain the policies and issues of the SADC countries.
  • Determine the content of the NEPAD Policy and the obligations for South Africa.
