PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This unit standard has as its core purpose, qualifying learners who will demonstrate an understanding of the historical, political, social and economic realities of South Africa. They will demonstrate a clear understanding of how the government functions and take note of the South African domestic policies.

The qualifying learner will be able to:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the structure of the South African government.
  • Explain the history of the achievement of democracy in South Africa.
  • Describe the Government policy on social and economic issues.
  • Explain the current social and economic realities of South Africa.
  • Describe the cultural diversity of South Africa.
