PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner who has achieved this unit standard will be competent in:
Performing, without supervision, the conditioning of grain to maintain consistent quality of finished products. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
To enter a learning program for this unit standard or to be assessed against this unit standard, the learner is assumed to have:
  • Literacy, numeracy and communication skills at or equivalent to NQF level 1.
  • Attended a course on the conditioning of grain.
    Or
  • Have had in house training on the conditioning of grain.
  • An understanding of General Safety in the work place at NQF level 1. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The scope of this unit standard deals with the conditioning of grain.

    The specific outcomes as reflected in this unit standard should be performed without direct supervision, but with access to work site procedures and operating instructions.

    NB. Unit standard GRM 002 Conditioning of grain applies to both wheat and maize milling.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Prepare for the conditioning of grain.

  • Preparing the work area according to work site and safety procedures.
  • Determining a sequence of operation according to work site procedures.
  • Selecting appropriate tools and equipment according to work site and quality procedures.Selecting appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) according to statutory requirements.
