PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner who has achieved this unit standard will be competent in:
Cleaning a cutting machine to ensure readiness for production. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
To enter a learning programme for this unit standard or to be assessed against this unit standard, the learner is assumed to have:
  • Literacy and numeracy at NQF level 1
  • Knowledge of the application of quality control during tobacco processing
  • Introduction to the Tobacco Processing Industry 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
    The learner is expected to perform the specific outcomes as reflected in this unit standard with minimal supervision, but with access to work site procedures and cleaning instructions

    The scope of this unit standard deals with the cleaning of a cutting machine to ensure readiness for production

    Machine components include, but are not limited to knives, grinding stone, deflector strips and mouthpieces 

    Specific Outcomes and Assessment Criteria: 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Prepare cutting machine for cleaning.

  • Locking out machine according to safety and work site procedures
  • Accessing the machine according to work site procedures
  • Removing tobacco from the machine according to work site procedures
  • Obtaining cleaning utensils required according to work site procedures

    Assessors will observe, confirm and evaluate evidence that will indicate that learners have demonstrated competence in each of the specific outcomes. In this unit standard the following specific criteria should be used:

  • Accessing the machine
  • Inspecting applicable machine components
  • Following cleaning procedures
  • Reporting deviations

    The purpose of the following are explained:
  • Locking out the machine
  • Closing up the machine

    Perform cleaning of cutting machine.
