PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
This standard is in the elective category of the NQF Level 4 National Certificate in Footwear technology. Learners assessed competent against this standard will be able to implement clicking techniques using a range of advanced machines and equipment through cutting upper components using a range of advanced machinery and equipment, applying patterns to processes, coaching fellow employees as well as organising the workflow of processes. Learners involved in clicking will use this standard. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
Learners will have attained the NQF Level 2 National Certificate in Footwear processes. 

UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
Machines used for cutting at this level will include:
  • Travelling head press.
  • Swing beam press.
  • Splitter.
  • Size stamper.
  • Strip cutter.

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 1 
    Cutting upper components using a range of advanced machinery and equipment. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. Advanced machinery and equipment specifications are identified and understood applying manufacturers specifications. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. The ability to cut a size range of uppers is demonstrated according to standard operating procedures and enterprise specifications as stipulated per work ticket. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Applying patterns to processes to produce cut upper components.

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. Pattern understanding is clearly demonstrated according to standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. While being observed, patterns are placed for cutting according to standard lines of tightness in compliance with standard operating procedures. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Coaching others to perform tasks relating to clicking processes.

    1. The principles of effective coaching are understood and effectively implemented applying specified coaching techniques. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. The ability to coach a fellow employee to perform a new skill on any one selected machine is demonstrated. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The ability to identify and assess a range of materials for cost effectiveness, quality and suitability of purpose is demonstrated in accordance with customer specifications and standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. The ability to cut a selection of materials safely is demonstrated with a variety of machinery in compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 4 
    Organising the workflow of a process to cut materials to produce upper components. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
     

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 1 
    1. A learner is instructed to stack and cut components and then pass on with work ticket to next operation which is size identification in compliance with enterprise standards and standard operating procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. A workflow of processes is organised where relevant processes pertaining to the manufacture of upper components is considered applying industry norms. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. The ability to select appropriate presses to produce various components is demonstrated in compliance with standard operating procedures and safe operating practices. 


    UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS 
    The relevant Sector Education and Training Authority or Education and Training Quality Assurance Body will carry our accreditation of learning against this standard. Assessment will be conducted by registered assessors.
