PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD 
A learner credited with this unit standard will be able to facilitate learning in development practice projects using a number of facilitation methods and techniques appropriate to community or group learning events. This includes setting up an engaging learning environment for participants.

A learner will also be able to specialise in a range of learning-fields that will bring about transformative development.

The learner will work independently in the community under the supervision of a person who is responsible for the co-ordination. 

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING 
A learner studying towards this unit standard is assumed to have completed the following unit standards:
  • Support the facilitation of learning in a development practices project at NQF Level 1.
  • Understand and apply theories and principles of transformative development practice at NQF Level 4. 

  • UNIT STANDARD RANGE 
  • Development practice projects include meetings; workshops, rallies and individual learning activities and can take place within a formal or informal context.
  • Selecting an appropriate facilitation method or technique should be selected that can address in at least three [3] different specialised fields of learning.

    An external moderator may moderate the results of learners. External moderators should provide reports not only on the fairness and consistency of assessment, but also on the validity of the assessment design in terms of the specified outcomes.

  • UNIT STANDARD ASSESSOR CRITERIA 
    Anyone assessing a learner against this unit standard could be employed as a development practitioner in the same provider institution with at least a level 5 Qualification and work with a registered assessor in development practice with the relevant ETQA.

    Registered Assessors must have a level 5 qualification in development practice and prior or concurrent experience as a development practitioner.

    In Assessment Criteria "A rationale for choosing each particular method or technique is provided", the facilitator should ask questions which draw on local knowledge and promote critical engagement.
