This unit standard is for persons in the Electrical Engineering; Generation; Distribution; Transmission, Construction and Renewable Energy Sector.

A person credited with this unit standard will be able to:
  • Plan and prepare to maintain a high voltage security fence system
  • Inspect and clean a high voltage security fence system
  • Repair, replace and rectify defects on a high voltage security fence system.
  • Re-commission and complete work on a high voltage security fence system

    This unit standard will contribute to the full development of the learner within the electrical engineering and construction environment by providing recognition, further mobility and transportability within the field of Physical Planning and Construction.     1. Authorisation is obtained according to high voltage permit system. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. Documentation is obtained according to work site procedures.

    3. All materials required for maintenance are selected and obtained according to work site procedures. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. Appropriate tools and test instruments are identified and selected to meet the requirements of the task and according to statutory requirements. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 2 
    Inspect and clean a high voltage security fence system.

    1. Printed circuit boards and enclosures are inspected for cleanliness; faulty components and defects are recorded. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 2 
    2. High voltage security fence components are inspected for defects according to manufacturers specifications and defects are recorded. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 3 
    3. High voltage security fence conductors and terminations are inspected for hot and loose connections, discoloured connections and defects are recorded. 

    ASSESSMENT CRITERION 4 
    4. High voltage security fence system components are inspected for sustainable alarm conditions and defects are recorded. 

    SPECIFIC OUTCOME 3 
    Repair, replace and rectify defects on a high voltage security fence system.

    1. Appropriate tools are used to meet the requirements of the task according to statutory requirements.

    2. All faulty components are identified.

    3. Identified faulty components are removed and replaced with correct specification components in line with manufacturers specifications and safety standards.

    4. High voltage security fence operation and functionality are tested for correct operation according to manufacturer's specification and deviations are repaired and reported.

    5. Appropriate tools and test instruments are cared for and stored according to statutory requirements.

    6. Completion of the task is reported according to work site procedures.
